Out of hours
The Primary Care Trust is responsible for this service which is provided by Herts Urgent Care. To access out of hours emergency services please contact the surgery on 01462 732144, where a message will give details on how to access help.
Please use this service responsibly. It is very important that only serious accidents and genuine emergencies go to A&E departments. These departments are very pushed, and if in doubt please follow the advice of NHS 111 or the out of hours doctor.
Requests for letters
We are receiving an increasing number of requests for the doctors to write letters, most often for a third party. The requested content varies considerably such as details of medication, record of past immunisations, support for housing moves, insurance claim forms etc.
Each of these can involve a considerable amount of time, extracting the information from paper records and then completing the letter. None of this is NHS work and encroaches on the time available to deal with patients.
Please note that issue of such letters will be liable to a minimum fee of £20. If the request is particularly complex then a higher fee may be charged, but this will be advised and agreed prior to commencing the work.
A projected timescale for completion of the request will also be given, but generally will be 5 working days. We would also point out that the doctors retain the right to refuse if it is considered that the request is inappropriate.
It is important to note that Arlesey Medical Centre is a community interest company and therefore any fees earned for non-NHS work are retained within the business for reinvestment in patient care.
